Search Engine Optimisation for Small to Medium-Sized Companies

The internet is now the first port of call for most prospective new customers. Already sitting at the computer, the easiest, fastest and usually most effective way to find a supplier or service provider for most people is to search the web. And how many pages do you think most people scan for a result that matches their search before they attempt another search? Well, according to recent research, it's usually the first and perhaps the second pages - no more.

On the internet, it's all about search and being found. If you're running a commercial electrical company in Birmingham, for instance, and someone is doing a search for "commercial electrical services Birmingham", your website should appear on the first page of results returned.
 

The good news

Imagine this: It is estimated that of all the millions and millions of websites that exist today, only 5 percent actually take any real measures to improve their ranking in the search engines. You hardly have to be a rocket scientist to work out which ones are being found.

Search engine optimisation still represents a huge opportunity for the vast majority of commercial websites. Investing a relatively small amount in optimizing your website for the major engines and seeing your site listed in the first page of natural results returned could be one of the wisest marketing decisions you ever make.
