Keeping it simple!
We need to talk -
Every website is different. Every industry is different. Every
customer is different. All of our customers have different
goals. Some want to rank in the top ten natural results returned
by the search engines for a large number of specific keywords.
Others want to see a gradual across-the-board improvement
to their visitor numbers as the years and months progress.
I
think it is essential to talk about what you want to achieve for
your website before I can go any further. Only when I know what
is required can I really put together a plan that will deliver.

Our typical approach
My
first task would be to look at the current website and determine
the degree to which it is "search engine friendly" or not. I
would then research its current ranking, analyse its competition
on the search engines and make an assessment as to how difficult
it would be to achieve sustainable success for each of the
particular search terms mentioned.
I
would then make some changes to the coding of your website
(don't worry, in most cases this will not alter its appearance
in any way) and send them back to you for you to implement. In
most cases these are simple changes that the search engines
actually recommend that you make. These changes will make a
difference to the way in which your site ranks and appears in
the search engine results.
My
next task would be to look into the linking structure of your
site, with a particular emphasis on incoming links. I would then
implement a sustainable plan behind the scenes to make sure that
your website becomes more visible. Without wanting to go into
too much detail, this is the most important part of the whole
process.
If I
optimized a particular website for the fictional example above,
I would expect to see it ranking in the top 10 or at least the
top 20 within about four months of implementing my website
optimization measures.
